films; it's camera work is expressive. The film defines
the position of the spectator: it puts the viewer in the
position of a stalker and the elements of incompleteness
and inconsistency push the viewer to realize his own obsessive
investment in the story making sense.

min.
At times in a decadent milieu, at times having fun in the
sun, the grotesque wax characters amuse themselves to the
beat of Bloody Bells and Bubba Skinner performed by Elevators.

The video is shot using a thermograph, which is an industrial
device for measuring variations of temperature. The ghostly
impression of this technique suits perfectly with the dramatic
quality of Maritta Kuula's song.

Las
Nueve Vidas/Petri Kotwica/Finland/1999
Film about a bass player in a Latino who needs to take a
leak, and gets lost in a forest behind the dance pavilion
and on the icy surface of the sea. The night of horror surprisingly
turns into a fishing trip when he dives into a hole in the
ice dodging a passing cruise ship and a fishnet is caught
in the tip of his sharp-pointed shoe.
Fahrradfahren
ist notwendig/M.A.Numminen & Sökö Kaukoranta/Finland/1999
In the song praising the beneficial health effects of cycling
the person riding the bicycle is not, however, the singer
himself, but actress Anneli Sauli: Numminen is sitting in
the back seat of the bicycle and joyfully breathing in the
air.
Risto
Rosa Liksom/Finland/1999/document
Risto is an interesting summary, with a humorous and understanding
narrative, of the life of Risto Kautto, a little big man
from Helsinki. Risto Kautto is a retired researcher of the
Finnish Film Archive.
Rippeitä
/ Remnants
Maarit Lalli/Finland/1999
Understanding film about a young family at a time when only
the remnants of love remain.
Elokuvantekijät
/ The Film-makers
Tero Jartti/Finland/1999
Satir about a film-maker in his forties. The "documentary"
takes an interesting turn when the film-maker doubting his
own "artistry" introduces a documentary-maker to a collegue
of his, Elias, a performance artist who lives in a pile
of wood chippings.
Yksityisetsivän
tytär / Daughter of the Provate I
Iiro Küttner/Finland/1999
Marlowesque film about retired persons' afternoon dances
in Helsinki. The principal character, Maisa, is at a restaurant
alone for the first time, and she hides her insecurity in
the guise of fatality, acting cool and observing the others.
2001
toivetta / 2001 Wishes
Tarja Kylmä/Finland/1999
Beautiful film like a Japanese wood engraving; tender and
poetic, leaving room for verbal expression alongside with
the image.
Kuppausta
Kotiharjun saunassa / Cupping at the Kotiharju Sauna
Tahvo Hirvonen ja Simo Rista/Finland/1999
A descripition of the last wood-heated public sauna still
operating in Helsinki.
Dual
Milla Moilanen/Finland/1999
A film about the fine line between the visible and the invisible.
The protagonist is engaged in a wordless dialogue with his
alter ego formed by light, for whom everything is possible.
it si a ghost, another level of the mind, a spirit that
does what the mind confined to the body is not capable of.Or
which one is the alter ego, after all?
Viimeinen
kesäpäivä / The Last Summer Day
Markku Pölönen/Finland/1999
Story about Mikko whose best friend's little brother in
ran over by a truck. An ice-clear description of the moment
when the turquoise bubble of dreams and trust surrounding
the child is broken. Desbite its solemn theme, in the end
of the film the viewer is released through satiric buoyancy
to healing laughter.
