Digital media meets traditional film

Tampere 31st International Short Film Festival is to be March 7 - 11, 2001. We offer highlights of best new short films made on film and we offer an excellent cocktail of animation, document and fiction.

  • ·Unique electromental films made by Finnish and international film makers. Guest starring the Digital Film Festival Resfest from the United States.
  • Experiental tales of the cities collected by the British director Ian Helliwell. There is also an accompanied show of Mika Taanila's Pori triptych and Berlin Metropolitan Symphony by Walter Ruttmann.
  • Retrospective of Peruvian short films - documents and fiction - produced during the past twenty years. One screening is dedicated to contemporary director Aldo Salvini.
  • The Backyards of Europe: Belgian Case Record. Fabulous films by young Belgian directors such as Olivier Smolders.
  • European Coordination of Film Festivals have introduced 15 x 15, a film program promoting European unknown films. Aki Kaurismäki's choice Eight Deadly Shots by Mikko Niskanen (1972) is for the first time in history shown in its whole length.
  • Betty Boop, the popular talkartoons heroine of the Fleischer brothers in the 30's.
  • Music Documentaries: Einstürde Neubauten: Listen with Pain. Current document of the career of the first and the most significant industrial band.
  • Robert Frank: Pull my Daisy, Frank's much acclaimed documentary of the beat generation.
