Tampere Film Festival enters the Oscar category

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has accepted Tampere Film
Festival to the Oscar category of festivals: the winners of the main
prizes at Tampere Film Festival are accepted to be nominees for Oscar
Short Film Awards.

Due to changes in the regulations of the Academy, the winners of the main
prizes in the national and international competitions at Tampere are now
automatically included in the nomination process. This means that, for the
first time, also a Finnish short film with no distribution in the States
can win the Oscar Short Film Award.

Already now, the winner of the annual UIP prize of Tampere competes for
the Short Film Award of the European Film Academy.

Next year Tampere Film Festival celebrates its 35th anniversary, March 9th
- 13th, 2005. The greatest and oldest short film festival in northern
Europe screens once again the finest gems of short film. The national and
international competitions and special series include fictions, animations
and documentaries from Finland and abroad in more than 100 screenings.
