Focus on Black Africa programme gives diversified and interesting review on cinema of the Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme focuses on the evolving film production of Eastern Africa, which often deals everyday problems with humorous grasp. Within the programme there are also films from Guinea and South-Africa.

POLISH SHORT FILM
Polish short film has for decades been on top of the European cinema. Karabasz & Kieslowski screenings concentrate on early documentary of the two indisputably remarkable directors Kazimierz Karabasz and Krzysztof Kieslowski . The other part of the special programme, Polish Film Schools 1 and 2, introduce the recent interesting short film production from Poland.

MEGAPOLIS
Megapolis programme exhibits giant cities from varying point of views. The opening film of the programme Birth of a Nation (1997) goes underground in New York. The film is directed by Jonas Mekas, the god-father of american avantgarde cinema. Mekas' original filmmaking will be exhibited also in two other screenings that consist of his short documentaries. Additionally, Megapolis programme takes its audience close to the ordinary everyday life of big cities in the Jakarta, São Paulo and Round the world screenings.

Music and Rhythm
Music and Rhythm programme gives a slightly wider perspective on cinematic swing. In addition to music documentaries, accompanied silent films and Michel Gondry's and Spike Jonze's music videos, the Sound on Screen 1 and 2 offer playful glimpses of music and rhythm in film from the beginning of 20 th century to present days.

For the 24 th time Tampere film festival devotes own programme for the Finnish Film Archive. This year Film Archive celebrates its 50 th anniversary with a special screening which concentrates on the history of film-making and cinema. The other screenings portrays marshal Mannereheim and finnish capital Helsinki. Two Finnish silent films Murtovarkaus (1929) and Meidän Poikamme (1921) will be accompanied by original contemporary music.
