The 40th anniversary year of Tampere Film Festival was a great success. The box office kept busy and the total of guest and audience members peaked a little over 31 000.

Miia Tervo’s Lumikko (2009) won the Grand Prix of Tampere Film Festival’s International Competition. It is a document based on a phone conversation with a young girl and Pekka Sauri in the radio program Yölinja. Lumikko is only the third Finnish film that has ever received the Grand Prix.

On Sunday everyone is nervously awaiting for the competition results, which are announced to the public at 1pm. The “Kiss” Statuettes are handed over to the winners at the Closing Ceremony at Plevna 1 from 12pm to 2pm.

The Saturday morning at Tullikamari begins with a screening that has been put together by Finnish Film Contact, the all-age friendly Minikino. It gathers together the most beloved children’s movies from the years 1968-1991, which are shown on 16mm film.

Today at Hällä is seen a rerun of Andrei Nekrasov’s Russian Lessons (2009). The director will be present to introduce the screening. The ¡Viva el corto! programme presents the following screenings: Mexodus, Gustavo Taretto and Terror, which has sold out.

The screenings kick off at 10am on the second day of Tampere Film Festival. Seen at Tullikamari are the fruits of a project undertaken by the Finnish Film Contact, the Finnish Film Foundation and the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture (AVEK); the Skidisti screening.

Tampere Film Festival conquers the city of Tampere again for five days. Plevna, Tullikamari and Hällä are the main venues for the films but they are also screened at the Niagara cinema and at Tampere Hall.

François Alaux, Ludovic Houplain and Hervé de Crécy’s animation Logorama (2009) won the Oscar for Animated Short Film last night. The film will be seen at Tampere Film Festival on the Auteur de Minuit screening.

Documentarist Andrei Nekrasov will attend Tampere Film Festival with his film Russian Lessons (2009), a documentary that examines the Russia-Georgia War of August 2008.

A total of about 350 films were submitted in the National Competition 2010. The films exceeding 30 minutes will be shown in seven screenings while the films under 30 minutes in four screenings.
